How to Turn On and Off The Chrome Bookmarks, History, and Password Synchronization on Windows 10

Users can use Chrome Sync to sync data such as bookmarks, passwords, and history across multiple devices. When logging in to a Chromebook, this feature is automatically enabled, and users may be prompted to log in to Chrome Sync when using the Chrome web browser on other devices.

To protect your personal information, do not enable sync… on computers where you do not have a password-protected individual login. If Chrome Sync was accidentally enabled, follow the steps in the section titled Remove a profile from a computer. Data will be left behind and accessible to others if you only log out.

The Thing that Happens When You Sync

  • You can view and update your synced information, such as bookmarks, history, passwords, and other settings, across all of your devices.
  • You’ll sign in automatically to Gmail, YouTube, Search, and other Google services. If you were signed in before enabling sync, you will remain so.
  • If you switch devices (for example, if you lose your phone or buy a new laptop), you’ll get your synced data back.
  • If you enable Web & App Activity, your Chrome history will be used to personalize your experience in other Google products.
  • Chrome may combine your Google account’s declared age and gender information with our statistics to help us build products that are better suited to all demographics. This data is only used in aggregate form.
